Wekepeke Path
The Sterling Land Trust was incorporated in 1998. Bill and Betsy Spratt donated the first
tract of land to the Trust in 1999. This 9 acre woodland includes 1,000’ of Wekepeke
Brook, considered one of the finest cold water trout streams in central Mass. A trail
head on Pratts Jct Road just 300’ south of the intersection with Flanagan Hill Road and
Industrial Drive provides access to a foot bridge crossing and footpath that runs along
the southerly bank of the brook. The path terminates at an impressive arched culvert
where the Wekepeke runs under the Penn Central Railroad. Many of the trees –
including white pine, red oak, sugar maple, white ash, and black cherry – are
exceedingly tall and old.
