Longhill Lot

Robert Gibson and his sister Carol Smith have multi generation family ties to Sterling. Both now retired and living on Cape Cod have fond memories of their childhoods here. They approached the Trust with an inquiry. Would we be willing to take possession of an 8+ acre upland tract of woodland situated off Clinton Road known as the Longhill Lot? This land was the last acreage held by them in Sterling (the rest of the family farm having been sold to others long ago). While this parcel is landlocked with no public access available, the Trust agreed to take ownership for it represented an important forest buffer between abutting quarry operations off of Leominster and Chockset Roads, and residences located on Clinton Road. The land includes some wetland and vernal pool habitat as well as red oak, black oak, and the seldom seen chestnut oak. The Trust is proud to steward this woodland and take all necessary steps going forward to ensure its preservation.
