Spreading Oaks Conservation Area

Phyllis George and her five children donated a conservation restriction over 23 acres of woodland off of South Nelson Rd in 2022. This land which has been in the George family for decades was near and dear to Phyllis and where she raised her family. Phyllis was a long-time member of the Sterling Garden Club and was determined to see this land protected forevermore for the people of Sterling. The land is part of and abuts the 1000+ acre assemblage of protected open space in northwest Sterling. The Spreading Oaks Conservation Land also abuts the conservation restriction donated by Ken and Kathy Cranson- the beautiful hayfields that can be seen while driving on South Nelson Rd. In 2007, Phyllis also protected an additional 25 acres strattling Rocky Brook through the Department of Conservation and Recreation.
